A Collector is one of the most eminent posts in the service of the Central Government. You may also be willing to become a collector. But do you know who is a collector? A Collector is a person appointed by the Central Government to handle various administrative functions in the district. A collector is the highest ranked government official in a state. Although a collector is appointed by the central government, he works under the supervision of the state government. Let us read in detail about the post of Collector.
What is the test to become a district collector?
You have to clear the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by UPSC. The Union Public Service Commission conducts this examination every year for recruitment in various civil services under the government. There are three stages in this exam- Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam and Personality Test or Interview. The Preliminary Examination (known as Civil Services Aptitude Test or CSAT) consists of two papers and carries 200 marks for each paper. Both the papers have multiple objective type questions. Paper II is only qualifying. The Mains exam consists of a written examination and an interview. There are a total of 9 question papers in the written examination, out of which only 2 exams are required to qualify while the remaining 7 exams are ranked. The written examination is of 1750 marks and the interview or personality test is of 275 marks, thus the Civil Services Mains Examination has a total of 2025 marks.
Age limit for becoming District Collector
- Age Requirement:
The minimum age limit is 21 years and maximum age limit is 30 years for general category candidates. SC / ST candidates have been given 5 years relaxation in age and OBC candidates have been given 3 years age relaxation in upper age limit.
- Minimum Education:
An applicant should be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized university / institute. Final year students can also apply for the exam but they have to present their degree / pass certificate at a later stage.
Who can apply?
Students who want to appear in this exam are required to be at least 21 years old along with the requirement to be permanent residents of India.
To apply, candidates need to have at least a graduation degree. Apart from this, people who are in the last year of their graduation can also take the exam. Apart from this, many different facilities are provided for the people belonging to the reserved caste.
